Is it almost December already?! I honestly do not know where 2017 has gone. Around this time of year, I always like to reflect on the past 12 months, and think about all the new wonderful things I want to experience in the year ahead.
All of my fabulous readers know how beauty-obsessed I am…make-up, skincare, perfume, tanning, and treatments galore are my favourite thing to chat about. So I thought I’d share with you my beauty trend predictions for 2018 – these are all things I’ve either tried for myself or heard incredible things about from close friends and family.
Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments
Because, let’s face it, we all love those two little words…’anti-ageing’. There are so many procedures out there, but I’d always opt for something non-surgical over knives and needles.
A friend of mine told me all about this recently after getting the treatment around her eyes, and I’m convinced it’s about to be the next huge thing in non-surgical treatments…Nitrogen Plasma Skin Rejuvenation.
Nitrogen Plasma Skin Rejuvenation (let’s call it NPSR for short, shall we?!) is a skin treatment new to us here in the UK that can be used to treat anything from signs of ageing around the eyes to stretch marks and even pigmentation (perfect for the age spots you get on the backs on hands). It may sound super high-tech and a little ‘out there’ but this is honestly one of the most impressive skin rejuvenation treatments I’ve heard about in ages!
Apparently, NSPR boosts collagen and elastin in abundance to create smooth, toned and youthful skin! Amazing. My friend told me the results are long-lasting as well (not like other anti-ageing procedures like Botox and fillers which require top-ups which is a bit too high-maintenance for me…not to mention the needles!). NSPR is completely non-invasive…no needles or knifes in sight! Phew!
I definitely think non-surgical is the way to go in 2018. NSPR is currently being offered by a select few Harley Street professionals. You can find out more about the NSPR with the NeoGen™ Evo here!
In 2017, we saw so many fab new make-up and skincare brands emerge with a proud cruelty-free ethos and I feel like in 2018 it’s only going to continue to become an industry standard.
My absolute favourite cruelty-free brand discovery of 2017 is Hempz – gorgeous skincare from America available in the UK via HempzBeauty.com. They use 100% pure hemp seed oil in all of their products to nourish even the driest of skins (namely, me). And my goodness, do they have a lot of products to choose from! My favourite picks are from the Triple Moisture range…for obvious reasons!
The range also includes a delicious smelling body scrub and shower gel to completely winterproof your skin! Let’s hope all brands follow suit in the year ahead when it comes to being cruelty-free!
Stem Cell Hair Restoration Therapy
Knowing first hand how much hair loss can affect self-confidence, I wanted to share this one after a guy friend of mine opted for stem cell hair restoration therapy and had phenomenal results. This treatment is predicted to be the best new thing to happen to hair loss sufferers in 2018.
Although not suitable for my specific type of Alopecia (Alopecia Totalis – complete hair loss) it’s absolutely perfect for male AND female pattern baldness. I wanted to share this regardless, in the hope it will help at least one of my readers.
It’s worth stressing that this is the perfect hair restoration treatment for women. Although there’s plenty of gents out there looking for this kind of treatment, it’s worth mentioning that a LOT of hair loss treatments are marketed specifically to men – such as Finasteride and hair transplants à la Wayne Rooney.
But in fact, women are much more likely than men to see their doctor about thinning hair first (53% vs. 26%) as well as hair loss being the body issue that women feel would make them least attractive to men – understandably!
Stem Cell Hair Restoration Therapy – popularised by Kerastem who are already huge in the USA and Japan – has recently landed in the UK and I think it’ll be taking the hair loss market by storm!
So now for the technical bit…it involves a quick mini-liposuction procedure where stem cells are collected and then re-administered to the effected areas of scalp. It only takes around an hour and a half from start to finish. Then your hair begins to grow back gradually over three months approximately.
I was surprised to read that it’s a one-time treatment which is quite unique…alternatives like hair transplants and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) can take lots of procedure to get the desired effect. Oral treatments – things like Minoxidil – have to be taken every single day, or you lose your hair again!
Kerastem hair restoration therapy actually gives your body the ability to grow back your hair – it seems so much more natural to me than the alternatives out there at the moment, would you agree?
There’s been sooo many Beauty Apps around this year! I loved the app Slapp: The Foundation Matching App & Makeup Shop! I always struggle getting a good colour match with my make-up, so this takes all the leg work out. Genius! The app Skin Matters is another brilliant one. I always get a bit concerned when I see horrendously long ingredient names on the back of my skincare products. This app lets you know if they’re good, why they’re good…or if you should be getting as far away from the nasties in there as possible! I definitely think with the lightning-speed at which tech keeps improving we’ll see some amazing new beauty apps in 2018.
This incredible permanent tattoo trend is sure to be even bigger in 2018.
Anyone that’s followed my blog for a while now will know that I was lucky enough to get my eyebrows Microbladed on by the Queen of Brows herself, Karen Betts. When I lost the hair on my head following my Alopecia diagnosis, my eyebrows disappeared too. It wasn’t until then I truly appreciated what an important feature your eyebrows are. They frame your face, make it appear symmetrical and most importantly, allow you to show expression!
For anyone that’s not familiar with the specialised art of Microblading, it’s effectively the permanent tattooing of eyebrows. Experts like Karen use a specialist facial tattooing machine (different to your standard tattooing machine) and carefully apply pigment to the skin using very fine needles.
I was impressed that I didn’t actually feel any pain at all, just slight vibrations on the brow area. There is a little redness after the treatment whilst the pigment settles into the skin, but it’s not really that noticeable.
Nothing could have taken away from the experience of looking in the mirror for the first time after Karen completed my brows. I had my face back again, it was wonderful. I couldn’t believe how natural they looked!
I went for a top-up appointment (as standard) in September to keep them looking fresh and full.
Perfect for no brows, sparse brows and brows that just need a little TLC – I’d recommend Microblading to anyone who wants a confidence boost. Make fabulous full brows your best accessory in 2018. You can find out more about microblading with the lovely Karen Betts here.
I hope that you’ve taken away a little beauty inspo – I know I can’t wait to see all the new treatments and trends in the year ahead. Here’s to a fabulous 2018!
Love Gail xx
